Today I started the Illustrator CC Essential Training lesson videos, I learned how the tools are set up and how to access them, I also printed out the tool panel guide. I set up my preferences in Illustrator, they are set up to go with his video but they should be played with with whatever project I’m working on. I then watched how the Zoom tool and the Hand tool work with each other. I also learned how to independently work with multiple documents open at a time. Addition to that I learned the usages and techniques to the Illustrator panels. It showed how to take this new found workspace and save it, so that I can quickly and easily jump to it anytime you want, and also how to build myself a workspace.
Today I worked on Adobe Illustrator, I was figuring out how to use the drawing tablet (wacom).
I started by picking my brush and deciding what I wanted, it was a little hard at first to figure out the placements on the tablet.
I only got to this point today because I kept having to delete because the pin is a little touchy.
Today I worked on lessons 2 & 3 on lynda.com Adobe Illustrator CC 2015.
I worked ensuing custom guides. I had to create a new file and made sure to leave a little bleed on the outside. I then went to the view menu and down to rulers, show rulers and then dragged from the ruler edges to create the guides.
I then worked on locking and hiding artwork, used with photos with many layers. You first have to go to the object menu and then select ungroup. You hide all the layers except the one you want to work with by clicking and dragging down your layers panel.
Multi-artboard: I first created a new document and then I went to the art boards panel, where you major your art boards. then you click on the bottom off your art board panel and press new art board. Then you grab the rectangle tool and created a different size of rectangle in each document.
Today I finished lessons 3 & 4 on the Adobe Illustrator CC 2015.
I first learned how to resize art boards, by going to the art board tool and then going to the object menu and selecting the Unlock All option, to unlock all of the layers. Then I went back to the art board tool and moving the selection making ti smaller. I then went to the selection tool and made a full section around the image and then, while holding down shift, I resize the image to the smaller size.
I then learned how to work with the layers panel. I first learned that the key at the bottom of the panel, that looks like paper, it creates new layers and then if you double click the layer you can rename it and or change the color of the layer, the color will also be the color of the selection that you select when you have that layer selected.
I then learned how to group sublayers under layers, you choose the layer you need moved and there will be a highlighted box the the far right of it and you click/hold and drag to the layer you want it under.
Today I worked on my own project, business card.
I started by creating a art board, 3.5 x 2, I then used the text tool and put the name of the business, a font from dafont.com. I also added a cute little duckling to the bottom of the board. I then used the rectangle tool and added six rectangles, used two different color swatches for every other rectangle.
I then used the eraser tool to curve in the points of the rectangles.
Today I started and finished lesson 5 on lynda.com, Adobe Illustrator CC 2015.
I started by learning how to use the line segment tool, if you use the shift key with it it will be a straight line and you can make it vertical, horizontal, or angled. I also used the Arc tool and its where you can either freehand a arc or use the shift key and make a perfectly rounded arc. I then used the spiral tool, you can make them big or small, and you can use the up and down arrows to add more or less spiral.
I also learned the poly and star tools. The poly tools you can make more than 11 shapes with it, you click drag and create the shape and while you are still clicked down use the up and down keys to switch shapes. The star tool is similar, you can make 8 different shapes and also keep adding points to the star, you click, shift and drag and while you are clicked down use the up and down arrows to add points, and you can also use the command key to change the ‘density’ of the shapes.
I also learned how to layer the shapes easily, you click the rectangle tool and then there is a three squared option panel below the tool panel and you can choose normal, behind, or inside.
Today I got through most of lesson 6 of the video training for Adobe Illustrator.
I leaning how to properly use the direct selection tool, you select it, keyboard command A.
You click the object and select one of the anchor points and use the points it gives you to drag and move the section of the object.
I learned how to group separate object within one document. You use the lasso tool and draw a selection around just the middle row and then press command G. And then you can use shift click to just select the middle row and then you press Command G to group. and so the same for the outer layer.
I learned how to duplicate an object with a document, you use the selection tool and then you also press the option key at the same time and drag. and to just make several in a row you would press command d.
I also learned how to use the Rotation tool, you get the selection tool and select an object and then you press R and make the center anchor point where you want it and it will move along the point.
I then made a tiny line and use the duplication technique to make them go all around the clock, I used the selection tool to select the line and then I got the rotation tool and selected it and I put the anchor point in the middle of the clock and then duplicated it around it.
I also learned how to distort object, I used the rectangle tool and then I used the free transform tool and moved the anchor points to move the shapes look.
Today I finished lesson 6 and started and finished lesson 7.
I first started with the Transform Each tool, which you get to by going to the object menu and select transform and then transform each.
Then with the transform each panel open you change the anchor point to the top center. You then change the Scale points for Horizontal (110%) and Vertical (115%). And then Move Horizontal (-5 px) and Vertical (-5 px). and then you would press copy at the bottom. Once you do that you can press Command D to many more that get larger each time.
To reflect something you use the reflecting tool in the tool panel, and you use the direct selection tool to select your half image and then press the reflect tool and you shift click and drag to move it to the other half.
Then press command z and then command shift z and then you use the arrow keys to move the object over to fill the gap.
To fill a image you make sure fill is on and then you open your swathes panel and select the colors you want for each part, if you wish to select several objects then fill them all the same you just hold down shift will clicking.
To use the gradient tool you go to the window menu and go down to gradient and then you and select your object.
All you do is select which gradient you wish, I used black and white. Then you and use the color stops to change the color of the object. And you can also change what type it is to radial to make the round gradients.
The way you change the way your stokes look is easy, you go and select your fill and stroke and then open the stroke panel.
I changed the width of my stroke to five and then I went in and selected the eyes and pressed fill to make them black instead of white.
To add endpoints and/or add dashed lines, you go to the stroke panel and change the weight of the line to 20.
And then I added a round endpoint and changed the size from 100% to about 50%, I also added an arrow end and changed the size as well.
I then did dashed lines, I went to the stroke panel and checked yes on dashed line and made all of my dashes 5pt and my gaps 2pt. I then added grow endpoints and the scale number to 50%. I also changed the profile to make it more deigned.
I then used the gradient panel to make my clock 3 dimensional, I first chose my colors of dark and light red, then changed my stroke from in the center to the middle.
I then added another color stop to the opposite side but made the middle one the lighter red shade to give it a glossy/3D look.
I then used the width tool to make this image more hang drawn looking, I first pressed shift W to access the tool. I clicked one line and made it either wider or skinnier, depending on the spot placement.
Today I started and finished lesson 8 and started lesson 9 on lynda.com, Adobe Illustrator CC 2015.

When switching from photoshop to illustrator you have to switch some of the things you do such as using a clipping mask. To use a clipping mask I first created a circle using the shape tool and moved it over the face of the image and then I went to the object menu and down to clipping mask and make.
I can work with any shape of your choosing.
